Nelson E. Tharp, a resident of Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at the age of 84. He was born on Wednesday, December 30, 1925 to John M. and Jessie A. (Sims) Tharp in Laredo, Missouri. Nelson served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 39 in Plumerville, Arkanas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaVera A. Tharp in 2005; daughter, Carolyn Young; sisters, Vera Marie and Veda LaRue; brother, Benford Tharp; grandson, Jason Graham and granddaughter, Alina Johnson. Survivors include two sons, Nelson Wayne Tharp and David John Tharp, Sr.; two daughters, Vera Diane Miller and Brenda Gail Cooksey; two sisters, Vella Mang and Lena Sievers; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home with Dale Walden and Jim Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Morris Cemetery Chapel under the under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Pallbearers will be Larry Ford, Dillon Parker, Jackie Parker, Marshall Laska, David J. Tharp, Jr. and Guy Horn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Loyd Young and David Tharp, Sr. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the chapel.
