Neil Acker of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born on December 30, 1950, in Checotah, Oklahoma, to George and Bernice (Duncan) Acker, Neil grew up with a strong sense of determination and a love for life. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1969 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma on a full scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in finance with a double major. During his time at OU, he played college football and was affectionately known as "Bull" by his teammates. On May 23, 1971, Neil married his red-headed bride, Georgeanne Acker (Collins). They were married for 36 years until she passed away in 2007.
Neil was a proud veteran, having honorably served his country in the United States Army, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His dedication and service reflected the same discipline and commitment he carried throughout his life.
Professionally, Neil worked as a financial advisor, guiding many clients through his roles at Morgan Stanley and BancFirst. His expertise and leadership were highly regarded in the financial industry.
Outside of work, Neil found joy in life's simple pleasures-cheering on OU football, spending time at his lake house at Eufaula, and enjoying hunting and fishing. He was also a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he found faith, community, and lifelong friendships.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgeanne Acker (Collins); father, George Acker; mother, Bernice Carpenter (Duncan); stepmother, Marian Acker; and sister, Nina Thomas. Neil leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, forever treasured by his daughter, Ashley Killingsworth and her husband O Jay; son, Dr. Bradley Acker and his wife Holly; sister, Linda Janzen and her husband, Duaine; sister Elizabeth Martin and her late husband, Walter "Butch" Martin; grandchildren Audrey Killingsworth, Kennedy Killingsworth, Richard Gonzales and Lily White; along with a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt Okmulgee Funeral Service & Cremation Care, 220 S. Alabama, Okmulgee, OK 74447. Family and friends are invited to leave messages of comfort, share special memories, and offer condolences online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
