Neal E. Stauffer passed away April 28, 2017. He died peacefully with his wife of 38 years, Kathy, by his side. Neal fought a hard fight against cancer, but that did not define his life. Neal was born in Tulsa, February 29, 1956 to Joan and Dale Stauffer. Clearly, his leap year birth made him exceptional from the beginning.
Neal attended The University of Oklahoma where he met his beloved wife. They were inseparable from their second date until his last breath. Neal was a graduate of The University of Oklahoma College of Law Class of 1989. He was a partner at the firm Stauffer & Nathan. As a member of the Oklahoma and Arkansas Bar Associations, Neal received many accolades. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and held a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating. Neal was a Fellow of the American College of Insurance Coverage of Extracontractual Counsel. Neal was the Chief Master of the Professional Responsibility Tribunal for the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and was also named a Super lawyer multiple times. He argued at the 8th and 10th Circuit Court of appeals and was admitted as an attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Neal loved to hunt and fly fish. He enjoyed a good cigar and a good writing pen. Master of the hasty bake and an excellent griller, his specialties included his famous ribs and beef tenderloin. Neal completed many 5k's and ran with the Fleet Feet Group. Some of his favorite things included chocolate, jazz music, and a great of pair of shoes. He always believed in a nice suit and tie completed with a properly fixed Windsor knot. Neal enjoyed Cardinal baseball, OU football, and old western shows and movies; especially Bat Masterson. He always knew how to make everyone laugh and always appreciated a good joke, especially Aggie and Chuck Norris jokes. He was known for his extremely quick wit and ability to defend and argue his position with poise and finesse. Neal’s favorite color was purple and he sported it often. We ask attendees of his service to wear purple honoring his favorite color.
