Mona Marlene Lickliter

Mona Marlene Lickliter, age 84, passed over to her Lord on June 9, 2023 at Hillcrest South in Tulsa.

Mona was born on August 6, 1938 at the family farm in Okarche, Kingfisher County, OK to Eldo and Lillian Wojahn. Mona married Phillip Lickliter on December 16, 1959 at Grace Lutheran Church in Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by daughter Karen Wiessler, parents Eldo & Lillian Wojahn, three siblings-Jeannine Holden, Roger Wojahn and Lois Tipton and three brothers-in-law--Danny Botts, Kenneth Tipton and Kenneth Holden.

Mona is survived by Phillip Lickliter, her dedicated husband of 63 years; son Kenneth Lickliter and wife Elizabeth, son-in-law Jeff Wiessler and grandchildren, John David and Sarah Wiessler. She is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Botts and Sandra Wojahn and husband John Hampton, sister-in-law June Strate and husband Homer Strate along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Mona first lived in Okarche OK and then at 9 years old moving to Fairland OK. She grew up with 4 sisters doing all of the chores associated with a small family farm in Oklahoma as well as getting into all of the mischief that might be expected from the next to youngest sister. The daughters kept Eldo and Lillian busy and Eldo and Lillian tried to do the same in return. Interestingly she was always a determined individual and even as the youngest daughter at the time, she took out the invading snake in the playhouse using an old rusted gun and a hoe. Always full of spunk and energy, she was a Fairland High School cheerleader and full of fun and escapades with dear friends, Georgia, Patsy, and Mary

Mona cherished her time as a military spouse in the Air Force through Phillips 20 years of active duty. She had the opportunity to live all over the world including Spain, France, and the states of Mississippi, California, Oklahoma, Missouri and Nevada. She had wonderful stories from each of the places and was particularly fond of Phillips last assignment in Las Vegas where Mona volunteered with the Girl Scouts and the family took full advantage of camping and the Nevada's natural resources.

After retiring from the Air Force, Mona and Phillip moved back to Oklahoma and settled in Northeast Oklahoma, specifically Fairland. The Family has numerous fond memories of their 20 plus years in Fairland where Mona's children Karen and Kenneth went to high school and then off to college at NEO A&M and OSU. After years of moving with the military, being near family was particularly meaningful.

From Fairland, Mona and Phillip settled in Hominy, Oklahoma. Before fully retiring, Mona acquired her commercial driver's license and briefly joined Phillip driving the 18-wheeler. They spent nearly 30 years expanding their place in Hominy and catching more crappie out of Hominy Lake than a person would think is possible and were extremely generous with their catches. Mona loved a trim lawn and neighbors frequently saw her extracting all possible speed from her riding mower. In addition, Mona and her sister-in-law June Strate were known bargain hunters at countless garage sales throughout Osage county. Price something at 50 cents and by golly they were going to get it for a quarter if they wanted it.

Mona was a 20 plus year cancer survivor and loved her grandchildren David and Sarah deeply. The grandkids referred to Mona as Grammaw and Phillip as Papoo. Mona and Phillip spent many joyous times with them in Hominy and at Karen and Jeff's homes in Boulder, Colorado and Washington, New Jersey. Mona really enjoyed a particular Thanksgiving with her family at a beach house in Florida when grandson David was in EOD training at Eglin Air Force Base.

She also had a special place in her heart for several neighborhood children that struck up special relationships with Mona and Phillip over the years. Mona enjoyed playing with and reading to the neighborhood kids. When they were old enough Mona and Phillip would take some of them to Hominy Lake to go tubing. Mona and Phillip maintained relationships with them up through and past high school to the present.

Finally, as many of you are aware, Mona became an iPhone texting aficionado over the last five or six years. Mona thoroughly enjoyed texting, if only "Good Morning", with her many texting friends on a regular basis. In fact, Mona received numerous messages during her final days to the effect "Hay, haven't heard from you today, just wanted to check in and see how you were."

Mona is an individual genuinely appreciated for dealing with the "little things in life" that were so meaningful for her circle of family, friends and neighbors. At a later date, a celebration of her life will be planned for friends and family.

Mona didn't necessarily have a "Favorite" charity but she was always a big fan of doing as much locally as possible.
