Mildred Opal Stephens

December 10, 1934 — January 4, 2013

Mildred Opal (Smith) Stephens, 78, went to be with our Lord on Friday, January 4, 2013. She was born to Leonard and Julia Smith on December 10, 1934 in Watonga, Oklahoma. She was a 1953 graduate of Tulsa Central High school. She married her true love Sterling 'Steve' Stephens on August 5, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mildred was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to spend time with her family and friends often enjoying their company while fishing and camping. Mildred dedicated much of her time in service to Olivet Baptist Church, where she was involved as a member of the choir and taught three year-olds for over 40 years. She had a beautiful soul and a gift for helping those around her. As a talented seamstress and cook, she applied her skills to meet the needs of others. Her family will miss her infectious personality, keen sense of humor and ability to brighten the lives of those who knew her. Most of all, they will miss the way Christ's love was demonstrated in her life. Mildred is survived by her son Mark and wife Shelly of Sand Springs; her daughter Vickie Barrett and husband Jim of Tulsa; her daughter Sandra Points and husband LeRoy of Claremore; seven grandchildren including Tina, Kimberly, Ashley, Samantha, Curtis, Kalee and Marissa; 10 great grandchildren; her brother Tony Smith; her sister Shirley Whitmore and husband Kenneth; her sister-in-law Mary Smith, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death was her loving husband Steve, her parents, and siblings Leonard, Francis, Jimmy, Ronnie and Sheila. A celebration of Mildred's life will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Olivet Baptist Church, 155 North 65th W. Ave., Tulsa, OK 74127. Memorial contributions can be made in Mildred's honor to Sand Springs Nursing & Rehab Center, 1025 N. Adams Rd., Sand Springs, OK 74063, or Life Senior Services, 5950 East 31st St., Tulsa, OK 74135-5114. Both organizations provided Mildred with wonderful, loving care during the last year of her life.
