Mildred Juanita Carl passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the age of 72. She was born March 3, 1939 in Forrester, Oklahoma to Walter Owen Brown and Magdelenia Brown Watson. She grew up around Heavener area until 1972, when she moved to Dustin. She attended grade school at Forrester and high school at Heavener. She got her Associate Degree at Poteau Junior College in Poteau, her Bachelor Degree at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah and her Master Degree at East Central University in Ada. She taught school in Dustin for 24 years and was a grade school principal. She loved to work with kids. Her hobbies were fishing and playing music. She played almost any instrument she picked up. She played lead guitar. She sang in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee and on KLCO radio station in Poteau when she was 12 years old. She has written several songs. She loved singing old gospel songs. She was a member of the Carson Baptist Church. She married Arley Rudolph Horne on August 16, 1957 in Poteau. They had four children. Then she married Billy Don Carl on July 29, 1982 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arley Rudolph Horne and her second husband, Billy Don Carl; her parents; six sisters, Sarah Morton, Lois Sanders, Helen Lovell, Velma Brown, Alla Mae Brown and Wanda Benson; four brothers, Earl Brown, Floyd Brown, J.D. Brown and William Brown. Survivors include her three daughters, Brenda and Mike Holmes of Canadian, Phyllis and Rick Looney of Okmulgee and Glenda and Guftin Cox of Hanna; one son, Eddie and Rhonda Horne of McAlester; four grandsons, Jeffery and Dawnyell Hill of Carson, Rickey Looney of Okmulgee, Justin McCart of Norman and Blayne Horne of McAlester; three granddaughters, Kamie Horne and Kacie Horne both of Schulter and Valerie Hill of Wagoner; numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, Lovern Maxwell of Heavener and Jewel Homes of Sallisaw; two brothers, Otis and Bernice Brown of Heavener, Delbert Brown of Pacola and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Carson Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Black and Reverend Mike Matlock officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Carson Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Clayton Friar, Dewey Wimbley, Dale Pendley, Jake Stapp, Brandon Wright and Trenton Tabor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Miller, Ronnie Stapp, Clyde Vandiver and Roy Joyner. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta.
