Michael Douglas Whitmire, age 65, passed away on October 17, 2024, in his lifelong home of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving mother, Judith A. Hill; daughter Nicole Whitmire; granddaughter Dakota Dunaway; younger brother Richard Whitmire and his wife Jennifer, along with their daughter Kathryn.
Born on August 18, 1959, Mike was a vibrant presence in the Tulsa community. As a child, he thrived in the Boy Scouts and earned accolades as a medalist in wrestling during his junior high years. His playful spirit and zest for life were evident in his many adventures, from bartending at Duke's and Tulsa City Limits to attending local drag and stock car racing events.
Mike dedicated 27 years to Air Care Services, where he served as a supervisor and formed lasting friendships. He often expressed gratitude to owner Gregg Wilcott, whom he credited with saving his life and providing him with a sense of purpose.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike loved camping, boating, and fishing with family and friends. His passion for NASCAR was unmatched; he never missed a race and even fulfilled a lifelong dream of attending the Daytona 500 with childhood friend Rick Byrne, where they visited the memorial for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
In recent years, Mike became known as "The Tomato Man," mastering the art of growing tomatoes and peppers. His infectious laughter filled the air as he recounted stories of tricking coworkers into tasting his super-hot peppers.
Mike was a devoted father, playful grandfather, cherished son, and beloved brother. His warmth and humor touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Powell Whitmire Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity hospice care facility of your choice.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date, allowing friends and family to gather and share in the joy and love he brought to their lives.
