Wayne McLaury

September 28, 1938 — February 16, 2025

Melvin Wayne McLaury of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away at his home in Broken Arrow on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born on September 28, 1938 in Cushing, Oklahoma to his parents, Sheldon and Leola McLaury.

Wayne grew up on a farm in Cushing where he had many adventures with his brother, Lee, and their collies. It was at Cushing High School that he met the love of his life, Alice. The two were married for over 66 years and built a life together with a focus on Christ and family. They worked hard supporting each other while Wayne attended Oklahoma State University graduating with a degree in chemical engineering in 1962.

Wayne was a dedicated professional engineer and worked for a variety of companies including Rockwell International, Williams Brothers, Motorola, Crest Engineering, John Brown Engineering, Dresser, Englobal, and Worley-Parsons. He was most proud of starting his own consulting company, McLaury Engineering, Inc. He enjoyed traveling and worked on numerous projects that led him around the world.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; his children Alissa McLaury, Kevin and Lynn McLaury, Brenton and Brenda McLaury, and Haley and David Gardner; grandchildren Justin and Erin McLaury, Ryan and Natalie McLaury, Katelyn and Daniel Campbell, Cameron and Raena McLaury, Lindsay McLaury, Jack Gardner and Mackenna Gardner; and nine great-grandchildren.

Known as Papaw to his grandkids, they have fond memories of him giving them a good scare, Tailybone stories, Santa impersonations, loud sneezes, and candy stashes.

He was an avid learner and enjoyed studying the Bible. His faith played a vital role in his life, and with Alice they instilled in their children strong faith in the Lord.

He will be remembered for his faith, integrity, hard work and his ornery smile.
