Melvin "Jim" James Cassie passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 71.
Jim was the youngest of three children. He was born November 25, 1946 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Dorothy Mae (Burgett) Cassie and Melvin Gordon Cassie.
Blackwell is where Jim grew up and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1965.
A few years after graduation he married Rose Marie (Ellis) Cassie on October 20, 1967.
Not even a year after they got married, Jim was drafted by the United States Army on April 4, 1958. He Sergeant in the Army until he was honorably discharges in 1970.
After his time in the service, the Cassie family relocated to Oklahoma City in 1972, and then finally settled in Tuttle in 1977.
Jim attended Central State University in Edmond and received a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Jim started his career at Firestone as tire builder. He worked diligently and was an instrumental part in forming the Union at Firestone. He was elected president of that Union, Local 998, and he served as president until he retired.
Jim was a sports enthusiast to say the least. He loved to cheer on the Oklahoma City Thunder and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. After retirement, he could be found gardening and watching his grandchildren play. One of his favorite topics of conversation were his grandchildren. He was a good storyteller and loved telling stories about his grandchildren. He will be well- remembered for his amazing chocolate fudge and ready supply of fudgesicles that he generously gave to all. He will be missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Mae (Burgett) Cassie and Melvin Gordon Cassie; and two sisters, Delores Earnest and Shirley Watson.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie (Ellis) Cassie; daughters, Angela Fricker, Pamela Scyrkels and her husband, Brett, Jamie Taylor and her husband, Jeremiah and Karla Rice; grandchildren, Gabriel, Caleb, Jadon, Megan, Calissa, Jacob, Kenna, Nicholas, Elijah, Dylan, Savannah and Hannah. He also leaves his close friend, Tony Carr.
