Matthew Paul Barry

March 31, 1985 — July 24, 2023

Matthew (Matt) Paul Barry (38) passed away at home in Glenpool, OK on July 24th, 2023 with his wife, Emily, by his side. In the days leading up to his passing, Matt was visited by many family members, friends, and co-workers. Matt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2022, which later metastasized. Matt fought hard despite the toll it took on his body, but ultimately was not able to overcome the disease.

Matt was an avid duck hunter, enjoyed fishing, collected whiskey, and had a passion for smoking and barbecuing meats. Matt was an excellent cook, often spoiling his children and family with fantastic meals. He enjoyed spending time with friends, and was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Sooners. Matt and Emily met as teenagers, and reconnected years later, though it felt like no time had passed at all. Matt adored his oldest son Parker who was his pride and joy. Together, Matt and Emily began fostering children in 2016. Brayden and Frankie, whom they fostered since infancy, were adopted in 2020 completing their family. Matt continued the role of foster father to many other children until his illness took over in fall 2022.

Matt is survived by his wife, Emily Barry (née Meyer); three children Parker (15), Brayden (6), and Frankie (4); loving parents Paul and Karen Barry; wonderful sisters Jennifer (Mark) Pyle, Michelle Horn, Kim (David) Carner, and Lauren (Chris) Prideaux; nieces and nephews Emily and Amber Pyle, Lucas and Eleanor Horn, Caleb Carner, Kyler Barry, and Nevaeh and James Prideaux; brothers in-law John and Jeff Meyer; and in-laws Deborah (David) Axton, and Scott (Elizabeth) Meyer. He is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many extended family members including his brothers at heart Travis and Kyle Pendergrass and their mother Sally. Matt was loved by so many, including close friends and his co-workers at Summit ESP.

In true Matt fashion, he did not wish to have a funeral, rather a party. The family will be taking some time to grieve, with details on Matt’s Celebration of Life to come.

Matt continues to be loved by so many, and always will be.

“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

- The Song of Achilles
