Long time Okmulgee resident, Mary Sunny, passed away on March 21, 2023, at the Okmulgee Medical Center at the graceful age of 98. She lived in Okmulgee all of her life and was loved by all she blessed with her presence.
Mary was born on September 12th, 1924 in Okmulgee, OK to Walter Sunny and Ellen Barnett Sunny. Mary was the middle child of nine siblings, Three brothers, and five sisters. Growing up, Mary and her siblings were heavily involved with Honey Creek Church. Walking over 8 miles to attend service, she was deeply invested and rarely ever missed a service. Along with her love for the church, was her love for the musician Bob Wills, often traveling with her siblings to see the "King of Western Swing." On Game Days, she could be heard cheering for the Boomer Sooners as a loyal fan. She was also a long time member of the United Methodist Women.
She worked over 38 years with the Ball Brothers Corporations, were she gained the love and attention of her peers, who knew they could depend on her. Many would say she had a "Sunny" disposition and that if they had more like Mary with her attitude, nothing would ever go wrong.
Mary is survived by her last remaining sibling Betty Lou Sunny Woodfield and her many Nephew's and Niece's. Mary had a big heart and always welcomed those around her with a kind smile and open arms to those who needed it. We will see her later as for now, she returns to her mother and father's arms to be welcomed into the pearly gates.
