Mary Lou Allen

July 29, 1946 — November 20, 2014

Mary Lou Allen of Owasso, Oklahoma returned home to be with our Lord on Thursday November 20, 2014 at the age of 68. Born in California July 29, 1946 and raised in Youngstown, Ohio she was the 4th of 7 living children born to Sophia and Chester Allen. Mary Lou “Butchie” was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated from South High in 1964.

She lived and worked in Youngstown before moving to the Dallas / Ft. Worth area where she managed an Arlington branch of First Texas Bank. Another move took her back to the golden state where she was born and she lived several years in the Antelope Valley area. “Butchie” then returned home to Ohio where she resided until relocating to Owasso in 2005.

Mary Lou had a servant’s heart and a playful yet tender spirit. She enjoyed taking care of her home, playing with the family dogs, reading crime & suspense fiction and watching television with her family. She was a doting mother to both her human daughter and beloved Shih Tzu, Sammie Joe. Sammie was both her protector and shadow and they were seldom seen apart. She enjoyed her hot Lipton tea, loved to cook and would often prepare favorite meals as a surprise. Her signature dishes included meatloaf, chili and made from scratch potato salad. Some of her favorite television shows were Law & Order, Gold Rush and she never missed a college or professional football game.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Valerie Thurik of Owasso; sister Marlene O’Neill of Girard, Ohio; sister Joann Miskovich and husband Joseph of Warren, Ohio; brother Richard Allen and wife Shari of Lancaster, California; brother Donald Allen and wife Bobbi of Youngstown, Ohio; brother Edward Allen of Boardman, Ohio; many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews; her dear friend Bernard Thurik and her devoted canine companion, Sammie Joe.
