Mary Ilene Hendricks died October 25, 2020, at the age of 68.
Mary was born on October 18, 1952, in Tampico, Mexico to her parents, Merlin and Norvella (Weideman) Upshaw. The family moved to Cairo, Egypt but were evacuated to Greece during the Six-Day War. They later moved back to the U.S. and Mary graduated from high school in McAllen, Texas.
She moved back to Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, Samuel Hendricks, Jr. and they were married May 27th 1973.
Mary worked for Streets Department store and Bryan Industries. She was also co-owner of Equus Golf, Inc. and the owner of ASAP Logo and Retro Decor. Mary later developed a love for yoga and became an instructor. She taught yoga at various studios around Tulsa, the Thorton YMCA as well as 12 & 12 rehabilitation facility.
Mary had many hobbies, she loved making jewelry and teaching yoga. She also took up singing and took lessons during the last few years. She always had an eye for art and loved taking pictures with her phone of whatever caught her eye. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Norvella Upshaw, and one sister, Melinda Barrow.
Mary leaves behind many wonderful memories to be cherished by her family. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Samuel Hendricks, Jr. of Tulsa, their two sons, Corey Hendricks of Seattle, Washington and Curtis Hendricks of Tulsa, daughter Christel Jones and husband Michael of Hominy, grandson Matthew Jones, grandaughter Chelsea Jones, and a great-grandson, Titus Redeagle; sisters Geri Hodges, Joyce Watson, Peggy Reeve, and brother Charles Upshaw in addition to nieces and nephews, many other loving relatives and a host of friends. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A reception and time of remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 7th at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service in the wine room from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come and share stories about Mary and enjoy Mexican food and a Margarita, Mary's favorite drink, in her memory.
