Mary Hart, 90, died on Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. John's Hospital, with family by her side. She was born September 4, 1926 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Garland Elmer and Ina Maud (Wimmer) Hammons. She grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for 2 years and the University of Oklahoma for 2 years. At the end of World War II, she married her childhood sweetheart, M. James Tharel, and together they raised three children.
Mary went to work in the banking industry and then worked many years as a staff assistant to the Governor and then U.S. Senator, David Boren. Later in life, she married Vic Graf, who passed away in 1997; and later, she married Harden C. Hart.
Mary was an avid bridge player and she loved to travel, especially on cruises. She was very close to her brother and sister, and their families. She loved to vacation with them every year at Padre Island, Texas. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing games of all sorts. She always kept a lovely home and enjoyed decorating for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. She was very active in her church and had a wide circle of friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harden C. Hart; children, Mary Judith Eakin and James Garland Tharel; parents, Garland Elmer and Ina Maud (Wimmer) Hammons.
Survivors include her daughter, Morene Johnson and husband, Terry of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jimmy Tharel and wife, Allison and Randi Wright and husband, Cliff; and 4 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, 2:00pm at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service and Cremation Care Center.
