Mary Frances Scott Morgan

September 16, 1934 — November 30, 2010

“Tootsie” Mary Frances Scott Morgan, 1934-2010 Mary Frances Scott Morgan was born September 16, 1934 in Hitchita, OK to “Dite” Sarah Olive Calvert Scott and “Ted” Louie Clifton Scott. She was the fourth of five children: Inez Scott Reynolds, Carlos Scott, “Tinker” Bess Loraine Scott Winn, and Don Scott – all of whom have preceded her in death. Affectionately known as “Tootsie” to family and friends, she had a multi-faceted and vibrant life. Growing up poor, she and her family worked as farm labors tending crops and picking vegetables and cotton. They had the luxuries of the outhouse, smokehouse, and bathing in a tub in the back yard. Mary attended Hitchita Public School and was one of nine graduating seniors in 1953. While working as a nurse in Henryetta for Dr. Smith and the hospital, Mary met Jimmy Steve Xezonatos. They married on August 21, 1954. In October ’55, they had one child, Teresa Loraine Xezonatos. Continuing to work as a nurse her focus became caring for the elderly. In the early ‘60’s, Mary moved to Wynnewood, OK to assist in operating a nursing home there. In Gainsville, Texas on August 21, 1963, she married “Buddy” G.R. Morgan. They had 2 sons: Gary Ray in July of ’66 and Clinton Heath in February of ’71. For the next 30 years Mary and Buddy continued to own and operated nursing homes in Wynnewood, Pauls Valley, and Atoka. Being avid deepsea fishermen the family spent most spare time on the Gulf of Mexico. In 1973, Mary and her family moved, to live on their ranch outside of Gerty, Ok. Mary was widowed in March of 1988. Her passion (besides her children) was assisting to create and diligently work to establish Hughes County Rural Water District #8. Her dream, in fact, finally came true and her neighbors were able to have clean, running water coming into their homes. Mary was very artistic and had an eye for decorating. Early on she graced family and friends with her paintings. She then found her love, “stained glass.” Mary has left us many beautiful pieces with which to remember her. To be closer to her brother, Don and his family, Mary made the move back to Hitchita. She acquired and built a house on the old farm of her childhood. On November 30, 2010 at the age of 76, Mary died at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She is survived by her children: Teresa X. and John Smart, Gary and Tammy Morgan, and Clinton and Katie Morgan; four grandchildren: Charity and Elizabeth Morgan, and Dakota and Cameron Coats; Sister-in-law, Paula Scott; nieces and nephews: Mark Winn, Randy and Shelia Scott, Rhonda and Eric Cunningham, Ricky Scott, Kay Moore, Lydia Scott and host of great nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held December 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home 411 W. Division in Henryetta with Ron Morton officiating. Memories and stories of Mary are welcome.
