On Sunday August 12th 2018 Mary Florence Winslow passed away from this life into her new life while surrounded by her family.
Mary started this journey in life on November 9th, 1944 in Havensville, Kansas, born to Ralph William Shockey and Pearl ( Warburton) Shockey. She was the first born of 8 children.
Mary spent most of her young life in Seneca, Kansas, living with her family in a renovated Chicken Coop. She loved telling people stories of that home. She had many fond memories of helping take care of her younger siblings. She attended and graduated from Seneca Public Schools before moving to Nebraska for work. It was there she met the the love of her life. Marvin (Bud) Winslow and Mary were married on September 5th, 1964. They were blessed with 3 beautiful children. The family lived in several small towns around southeast Nebraska.
Mary went to college and got her nursing degree. Then in 2008, part of Mary’s heart died when her husband passed away. It was at that time that she left Nebraska and moved to Oklahoma.
Mary became an active member of First Baptist Church of Rolling Hills, enjoyed a local widows support group, but the things that gave her the most joy were spending times with her children, grandchildren, friends, sisters, and brothers. Mary always had the habit of welcoming people into the family and doing whatever she could to help others out. If she met you, you became family. If she loved you, she’d never let you go. She held people tight and fierce. She prayed for people and cared for people. It’s who she was. She always made sure everyone’s belly was full when they left her house and their soul was nourished. She would make you laugh with her sarcastic wit and her use of the phrase “seriously?”.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Pearl Shockey, her husband Marvin (Bud) Winslow and his parents Bruce and Edna Winslow, her sister Judy Williams, her sisters-in-law Phyllis and Marlene Shockey, and her nephew Ralph Shockey.
She is survived by sisters: Sharon Heath, Jane and Clint Paul, Carol and Roger Rodaway, Eva and Marvin Stover, and brothers: Bob Shockey, and Bill Shockey. She’s survived by her children: Thomas and Kandy Winslow, Tina Kaminski, James and Holly Winslow and 7 grandchildren: Samantha and Tyler Ray, Nathan Winslow, Dustin Winslow, Jonathon Sanders, Matthew Sanders, Courtney Sanders, and Matthew Kaminski. She is also survived by an adopted daughter and grandson Christy and Quincy Mueller. She leaves many other nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She was loved by many and loved many.
If we can think of a legacy that my mom’s life leaves, it is one of faith, family and friends. Tell those who you love that you love them. Life is short.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family, online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
