Marjorie Elizabeth Abel

A funeral service will be held honoring and remembering the life of Marjorie Elizabeth (Claypool) Abel on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma with Pastor Scott Burmeister officiating. Marjorie passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at the age of 100.

Marjorie was born August 15, 1917 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the late Hazel (Scott) Claypool and Arthur Claypool. She was a 1933 graduate from Fort Dodge High School and then continued her education at Iowa State University to receive a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. Not long after graduation she began working at the Red Cross in Nebraska.

On July 6, 1942, Marjorie married the love of her life, Karl William Abel in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together they lived all over the United States due to Karl’s job in the oil industry. In the early 1950’s they made their way to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they started their family.

She was a charter member in Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Marjorie enjoyed traveling abroad with Karl and spending time with friends and family. She was very active in the church making banners and being part of the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League. Marjorie was always involved in something. She dedicated her time to the Red Cross and the Campfire Girls where she received a leadership award. In her recent years, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and started the library at Montereau Retirement Community. Her outgoing personality was something everyone enjoyed and will always remember her by.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Karl William Abel and her parents, Hazel (Scott) Claypool and Arthur Claypool.

Survivors include a son, Scott Abel and his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Karla Carter and her husband, Mark; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Marjorie to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church; 2550 East 71st St. Tulsa, OK 74136.
