Marie June (Sadler) Gunkel, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born August 27, 1919 to Charley Newton and Annie Fair (Warren) Sadler in Beggs, Oklahoma. She married Bill Gunkel on December 7, 1935. Marie lived in Okmulgee County most of her life. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and was a housewife. She also worked at Douglas Aircraft-WWII, as a riveter on Aircraft. She worked as a waitress and at the sewing factory. Her best accomplishment was her two boys, Billy and Wayne. She loved her boys and grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. As a member of the Second Baptist Church, she had a great love for her church brothers and sisters, who gave her comfort and love in their visits. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gunkel on January 13, 1983; her parents, Charley N. and Annie Fair Sadler; son, Charley Wayne Gunkel; eight brothers, Alonzo, John, Dolphos, Greenie, Rosco, Charley, Clay Dean and Glen; one sister, Dorthy Jean; two granddaughters, Janet and Ladonna Gunkel. Survivors include her son, William L. and Betty Gunkel of Okmulgee; two grandsons, William L. and wife, Tracy Abercrombie of Weleetka and David C. and wife, Natalie Davis of Denton, TX; two granddaughters, Teressa Jo and husband, Mark Quesenbury of Tulsa and Rebecca Sue Davis of Denton, TX; seven great grandchildren, Dustin Abercrombie, Ashley (Abercrombie) Jordon of Weleetka, Darrrell, Tony and Nickolas Quesenbury of Tulsa and Evan and Michael DuBusk of Denton,TX; one great great granddaughter, Bryleigh Jordon of Weleetka and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee with Pastor Steve Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
