Margaret Augusta Phillips

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Margaret Augusta "Gus" Phillips will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Glenpool with interment following at the Bixby Cemetery. Augusta passed away October 6, 2018 at her home in Glenpool, OK with her family by her side. She was 98.

Margaret Augusta Phillips was born August 2, 1920 in Gainesville, MO to her parents, Hugh Durham and Floy (Smith) Durham. From an early age she was affectionately know to many as "Gus" having lived in the Glenpool community since the age of 10. "Gus" graduated from Glenpool High School with the Class of 1938. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Phillips while she was attending Glenpool High School. She took a liking to a sharp young boy working at his uncles filling station in town so she made it a point to sit on that side of the bus on her way home from school to catch his eye, they eventually were married on October 3, 1939 in Clayton, Missouri.

Augusta loved a good card game, many nights were spent playing Pictch, Canista and Hand-n-Foot with family and close friends. She was very active and a longtime member of the Regular Baptist Church of Jenks later becoming Bethel Baptist. Augusta worked as an office manger for many years at various companies eventually retiring from Creek County Rural Water District.

Augusta was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Kenneth, her brothers, Darrell, T.W., Lloyd, and G.L. Durham; and a sister, Betty Pentecost.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Meek and her husband Jerry, Sue Vail and her husband Johnny; her grandchildren, Natalie, Kendall, Chris and Andrea; her great grandchildren, Nikki, Katie, Ali, Miranda, Blake,Caleb, Emma, Declan, Greyson, Michael and Lydia; her great great grandchild Carsyn, along with many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

Viewing and visitation will be 5:00 PM 8:00 PM Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service Chapel.
