Marcy Kay Gettys

May 11, 1953 — October 3, 2024

Marcellene Kay (Plummer) Gettys, lovingly known as "Marcy," passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, in her hometown of Tulsa, OK, surrounded by her adoring family. Born on May 11, 1953, in Tulsa, Marcy was the cherished daughter of Alvin Dale and Raedelle (Ridley) Plummer. She grew up with a kind and giving spirit that would come to define her life. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Jeff Gettys, her beloved children, Kristen Gettys and Peter Gettys and his wife, Amanda, her treasured granddaughter, Penelope Gettys, sisters, Sandy and Terri, as well as her adored dogs, Mr. Lio, Rose, and Willow, who were truly part of her family.

A homemaker at heart, Marcy poured her love and energy into raising her family, always putting others first. With Jeff often traveling for work, Marcy became the anchor of her home, making sure everything ran smoothly and joyfully. She was a constant presence in her children's lives, volunteering tirelessly at school, serving as a Girl Scout leader and camp counselor, and being a class volunteer for every activity. Her home was filled with creativity-she was a talented artist who loved to paint, draw, and craft beautiful things for those she loved.

Marcy had an innate love for children and spent years working at the Tulsa City-County Library's Jenks branch, alongside her daughter Kristen. She loved sharing stories, reading to children, and fostering a sense of wonder through books. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family; she "adopted" her children's friends and their children, becoming an honorary grandmother to many. She made everyone feel welcome and loved, whether through her delicious meals, her home, or her kind heart.

The moment her granddaughter Penny was born, she became the light of Marcy's life. Their bond was extraordinary, filled with shared moments of joy and creativity. Marcy and Penny were inseparable, whether they were drawing together or baking sweet treats in the kitchen. Their connection was a true testament to Marcy's loving spirit and her ability to nurture deep, meaningful relationships.

Even when arthritis made it difficult for Marcy to leave the house, Penny's school performances were the one thing that could coax her out the door. She never missed a single show, always beaming with pride from the audience. Their time together was captured in countless photos, filling the picture frame Marcy kept with over 5,000 cherished memories, most of them dedicated to her beloved granddaughter.

A lover of beauty in all forms, Marcy was a collector of pretty things-cookbooks, decorations, and keepsakes from her travels to France, Germany, Belgium, England, and Ireland. She adored high tea, fancy hotels, and sweet little desserts. Her impeccable handwriting was admired by all, and she was known for her culinary creations, with her butterhorn rolls and Milky Way cake being unforgettable showstoppers.

Her true happy place was at Grand Lake, where the family spent countless joyful summers together. For Marcy, Memorial Day and the 4th of July were bigger celebrations than Christmas, and she took pride in decorating her lake home and planning festive menus. These gatherings were always about family, togetherness, and her beloved dogs.

A caregiver throughout her life, Marcy devoted herself to her family, especially in the later years when she lovingly cared for her mother, who had Alzheimer's. She was the epitome of grace and strength, always giving of herself to those around her. Acts of service were her love language, and she lived every day as a shining example of generosity and love.

Marcy met the love of her life, Jeff, while attending Oklahoma State University in a business law class. She sat behind him, and he asked to borrow her notes-the rest, as they say, is history. Their love story spanned five decades, filled with laughter, flowers (peonies, her favorite), and countless beautiful memories. Jeff sent her flowers regularly, a small testament to their enduring love.

Marcy leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, her wide circle of friends, and her large found family. Her gentle spirit and generous heart have touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to bring joy and comfort to those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Marcy's life will be held 2:00pm, Friday, October 11, 2024 with a reception to follow at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service, 5757 South Memorial Drive, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.
