Mahala Elizabeth Edwards

Mahala Elizabeth Edwards age 94 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Mahala was born to Doctor J. C. Collier and Fletcher Elizabeth (Weaver) Collier in Lexington, Oklahoma on July 30, 1917. She and her mother moved to Oklahoma City during World War II where Mahala worked at Douglas Defense Plant. She met Virgil Edwards while working at the defense plant and they were married on March 13, 1944. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of their son Kenny on January 20, 1948. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Yukon. She was very active in the church for many years. Mahala also worked in the cafeteria at Yukon School and enjoyed continuing friendships with many of her co-workers. She had great love for her family and friends. For many years she was the primary health care giver for her husband during his years with Parkinson's disease. Mahala was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Fletcher Collier, her husband, Virgil Edwards, her son Kenny, her two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a daughter in-law, Glenda Edwards of Glenpool, Oklahoma, her step-daughter, Janell Jenkins and her husband, Gary of Western Grove, Arkansas, her niece, Sue Lightle and her husband, Jim of Joplin, Missouri, two step grandchildren, Mike Driscall and his sister Teresa Driscall of Glenpool, Oklahoma along with great nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Visitation is Monday, July 9, 2012 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Yukon, Oklahoma. Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 400 Elm Street, Yukon, Oklahoma. Reverend Bob Younts will officiate. Interment will follow at Yukon Cemetery.
