Mae Johnson

Mae B. Johnson, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the age of 88. She was born on Thursday, November 3, 1921 to W.K. (Jack) and Lee Etta (Bratcher) Benningfield in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1940 and also attended Okmulgee Business College. She was employed by the Department of Public Welfare as a Stenographer in Okmulgee and Tulsa Counties. She also worked at Hisson Memorial Center in Sand Springs as a Secretary in the Psychology Department. Mae was also employed at the Baptist Children’s Home in Oklahoma City. She was member of the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee and the Order of the Eastern Star, Nettie B. Fair Chapter 241 for 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ray, Clinton and Leonard Benningfield and one sister, Grace Crosley. She is survived by her sons, Gary L. Johnson and wife, Tommie Ann of Tulsa and Larry K. Johnsons of Ardmore; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Beggs Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Gary, Larry and Steven Johnson, Rick Anthony and Joe Jr. and Joe Sr. Crosley. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel.
