Lyle Richard Howard, age 70, passed away on the evening of February 17, 2016 peacefully at his home in Jenks, Oklahoma.
Richard was born July 28,1945 in Hastings, Nebraska to William Wilford Howard, Sr. and Thelma Rooney Howard. He was the third of three siblings. He graduated in 1963 from Abilene High School in Abilene, Kansas. After graduation he attended Washburn University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, graduating with a BA in History in 1967. He then attended Washburn University School of Law earning his JD in 1970. His career in law took him to Tulsa where he met the love of his life, Lynda Donn Leavitt Howard. They were married in 1974.
Richard enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and camping with his family and traveling to historic landmarks, especially Civil War battlefields. He also was a wonderful father participating in the activities of his two sons, Bryan Scott Howard and Matthew Sterling Howard, coaching soccer teams for many years and being an active Band Parents Association member at Jenks High School . Richard was an active supporter of the Jenks Community Food Bank. He was a life long member of the Disciples of Christ Church where he served in many leadership capacities. He also spent several years teaching law students at the University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University as an adjunct instructor. Richard was a devoted grandfather who doted on his three grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Wilford Howard, Jr. and his brother-in-law, James C. Bogart. He is survived by his wife, Lynda of the home, his two sons, Bryan Howard, wife Monica Graham and their son Coleman Ryan Howard and expected baby boy Howard; Matthew Howard, Emily Ramirez and their children Isabelle Riley Howard and Kian Alexander Howard. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Mickey Howard Bogart, sister-in-law, Nancy Howard, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Jenks Community Food Bank (www.jenksfoodbank.org).
A memorial celebration of life service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 27, 2016 at First Christian Church in Jenks, 308 East Main, Jenks, OK. Reverend Bill Hemm will officiate.
