Luther Kent "Bunnie" Factor, born on November 14, 1948, in Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away on February 27, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Luther, a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation, lived a life for his family, friends, and church.
Luther grew up in Haydonville, Oklahoma, and graduated from high school in Okemah. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, enlisting on February 27, 1968. He served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on May 5, 1971. He achieved the rank of Specialist 4 (SP/4). He received a National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and achieved the Sharp Shooter Standard.
After his time in the military, Luther worked as a groundskeeper for Tulsa Public Schools. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, Luther had a deep love for sports, passionately rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oklahoma Sooners. He was a firm believer in his lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was strongly supported by his loving church family at the Montesoma Baptist Church.
Luther was a vibrant part of his community, nurturing his cultural roots and having a love for Creek singing. It was at one of these singing events in 2014 where he met the love of his life, Loretta Burgess, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
Luther is survived his wife, Loretta Burgess of the home, his big sister, Patricia Factor of Okmulgee, Doris Roanhorse of Okmulgee, Gloria Lowe of Catoosa, Bonnie Lou Factor of Okmulgee, Brothers Joe Factor of Okmulgee, David Factor of Broken Arrow, Mose Factor of Okmulgee, Children Kim Factor of Okmulgee, Scott Factor of Jenks, Maria Factor of Tulsa, and Cody Factor of Okemah, who will remember him fondly for his strength, kindness, and laughter. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Luther is also survived by his faithful German Shepherd "Soddie" (dog in Comanche language)
Luther is preceded in death by both parents Joseph Factor and Elizabeth Davis, Sister Diana Stensgard, and his maternal Grandmother Ada Scott.
Pallbearers will be Sonte Lena, David (Bud) King, Eddie Mouss, Bubba Jones, Josh Hart and Patrick Jones.
The wake service was held from 5pm - 8pm Sunday March 2. 2025 at the Schaudt Funeral Chapel located at 220 South Alabama Avenue Okmulgee, Oklahoma 74447.
A funeral service for Luther took place on March 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Montesoma Baptist Church, located at 96119 N3790 Rd, Okemah, OK 74859. He was laid to rest in a burial ceremony following the service.
Luther's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Luther. Your spirit will be dearly missed.
