Lula Mae Messer, a resident of Okmulgee, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at the age of 78. She was born June 24, 1934 to Isaac and Selee (Roberts) Deere in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Selee Deere; grandparents, Chick and Nancy Roberts and two brothers, Tom and Eunice Deere. Survivors include her ten children, Roberta Pickett of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert Deere of Okmulgee, Rachel Schexenider of Cushing, Carla Schexenider of Cushing, Nancy Proctor, Linda Proctor, Ronald Proctor, Mary Hernandez, all of Tahlequah, Brenda Proctor of Morris and Martin Proctor of Tahlequah; two brothers, Wilson Deere of Liberty Mounds and Samuel Deere of Longview, Texas; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Wake Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Nuyaka Indian Baptist Church Reverend Kenneth Cooper. Burial will follow the service at the Nuyaka Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Rusty Lowe, R.D. Waterdown, Richard Proctor, Joshua Pickett, Shawn Deere, Robert Deere, Jr. and Wesley Shade. Honorary Pallbearers will be M.A. Proctor, Ronnie Proctor, Samuel Sanders, Cory Sanders and Tommy Deere.
