Louis N. French, father of Nancy K. Travers, died February 15, 2017, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. French was born April 7, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas to Harry L. and Ida May French. He was educated in Wichita, Kansas, attended the University of Kansas and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. In addition to attaining a law degree, he was a proud member of the United States Navy and frequently credited his service for helping him attain his college degrees in geology and physics.
He married Dorothy May Kayser, on July 2, 1946. After living and working in New York, they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Mr. French began a long and successful career as a patent attorney for Phillips Petroleum Company. While living in Bartlesville, they adopted two daughters, Laura and Nancy, both of whom were cared for and loved in their new home. In the early 1980’s, he retired as the General Patent Counsel of Phillips Petroleum Company in order to travel with his wife, Dorothy, who was in ill health. Upon her passing, he left his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and married a long-time friend, Gloria E. Moran. Louis and Gloria enjoyed over twenty-five years together, living in multiple locations throughout the United States.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy French and his daughter, Laura L. Holmes. Mr. French is survived by his wife, Gloria E. French of Sarasota, Florida; his daughter, Nancy K. Travers, and her husband, John M. Travers of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, he is survived by three grandsons, Jason Kepple (his wife, Sarah), Brian Holmes, and JT Travers and two great-grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Kepple. His family appreciates the care he received at St. Simeon’s, Southern Plains/Storey Oaks and, most of all, the assistance and support from Rivercross Hospice. Without their care, Mr. French’s final days would not have been so peaceful.
Private Family interment services will be held in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
