Loren B. "Skip" Mason age 52 passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at his Glenpool residence.
Skip was born January 29, 1957 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Tommy Lee Mason and Claudene (Murphy) Mason. He graduated in 1975 from Stroud High School. He played football for his school and in 1975 they won the State Football Championship. Skip enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and served his country from 1976 through 1980 and was honorably discharged. In 1981 Skip started working for the Tulsa Fire Department and was promoted through the ranks of Firefighter to District Chief. He retired in 2007.
Skip was active in the following organizations during his career and contributed his knowledge and experience in helping others. Oklahoma Task Force 1 (Urban Search and Rescue Task Force). He was Task Force Leader (2005-2007). Tulsa County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy. He volunteered for the Cancer Society Motorcycle Ride for Life and Habitats for Humanity. Field Instructor for Oklahoma State University - Fire Service Training (1995-2007). Field Instructor for the National Fire Academy (1996-2007). Responded to the Murrah Building bombing in Oklahoma City in April 1995. He directed high angle rope operations.
Skip married the love of his life, Charlotte Huygen on August 12, 1993 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He was a long time member of Faith Church in Glenpool.
Skip was a wonderful man who dearly loved his family.
Skip was preceded in death by his grandparents: Loren and Thelma Mason, John and Beatrice Murphy and his son: Marshall Loren Mason.
He is survived by his loving wife: Charlotte Mason of Glenpool; his daughters: Amanda Autumn Garcia and her husband, Joe Garcia of Tulsa; Sierra Brook Mason of Glenpool; his daughter in-law: Nichole Mason of Eucha; his grandchildren: Lane Marshall Failing and Mariah Autumn Failing; his parents: Tommy and Claudene Mason of Glenpool; his in-laws: Greta and Vincent Huygen; his sisters: Debbi Ogg of Tulsa; Melinda Anthony of Norman; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, co-workers and acquaintances.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service, 719 E. 141st Street, Glenpool.
Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Faith Church, 1901 W. 171st Street South, Glenpool. Interment immediately following funeral service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5100 S. Memorial Drive, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reverend Curtis Mason will officiate.
