Lonnie James Ownby

Lonnie James Ownby passed away on October 10, 2016 at Claremore Veterans Center at the age of 74.
Lonnie was born on January 22, 1942 in South Benton Township (Dallas County), Missouri to Clovil and Eugenia (Green) Ownby and was one of seven children. He grew up in rural areas of Missouri and attended schools in Dallas County and Marshall, Missouri.
Lonnie served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 and the Missouri State National Guard from 1965 to 1976.
Lonnie was a graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. He worked as a private pilot and flight instructor. He retired as an electronics technician from the Muskogee, Oklahoma Veteran's Hospital in 1999.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed restoring old farm equipment, was a Farmall enthusiast, loved to travel, visiting historical places, and was an avid history reader.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Tonya of Glenpool, Oklahoma, sons, Michael James of Muskogee, Oklahoma, William Toby of Alexandria, Virginia, Tonya's children, Doug and Stephanie Williford of Nolenville, Tennessee, Debbie and Ric Wade of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Shannon Crosby of Hitchita, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Kasey Wilson, Taylor Maxwell, Bailey Williford, Haelee and Chace Crosby, brother, Lawrence Ownby and wife Margaret of Sweet Springs, Missouri, sister, Lela Payne and husband Robert of Tumas, Missouri, Leota Cox of Urbana, Missouri, sister-in-law, Edith Ownby of Buffalo, Missouri. He is also survived by a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, and special friend, Gail Barnes of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Burial of his urn will be 2:00 PM Sunday October 30, 2016 at Macedonia Cemetery in Buffalo, Missouri, with Military Honors.
