Linda Sue Hazel was born July 17, 1951, at East St. Louis, Illinois, to Earl and Luella Jones, the second child of their six children. She had one brother who was the oldest of the six and four younger sisters. She grew up in that area and for several years attended a Catholic school.
Later Linda had a "Paper Route," attended Job Corp and worked at Central Microfilm. She married and had three children in Illinois from the marriage: Michael Byron Hazel, Timothy Hazel and Tammy Hazel. The family moved to Tulsa the summer of 1977 due to her husband looking for work. They divorced in 1983 or 1984 and she remained in Tulsa and raised her children there.
Linda began working as a school bus driver for Tulsa Public Schools shortly before her divorce. She drove school buses off and on for Tulsa Public Schools for 25 plus years. She bought her own home for her and her family and lived in that home near Pine and Memorial in Tulsa for 46 years. Linda met her best friend, Debbie Pearsall, sometime around the year 2000 as they worked together at Tulsa Public Schools Transportation. They initially met while working in the park at TPS Transportation during the summer.
Linda was a mother who did everything in her power to take care of her children making sure that they had a birthday cake, Easter egg hunts, a Christmas tree and Christmas gifts and other things that would make the lives of her children special. She also provided for them the very best that she possibly could. During those difficult but good years Linda had to work a second job at night for 15 years in addition to her bus driving job just to meet her family's needs. In later years she generously provided for her grandchildren by purchasing their clothing until they were in school.
Although she did not attend church during the growing up years of her children (she probably needed the rest), she sent them every Sunday on the Deaf Bus to Eastwood Baptist Church. For fun she took them very frequently to the lake during the summers for fishing and swimming. She especially enjoyed fishing.
Linda extended her maternal care even to the neighborhood children. Many, many times she would play all kinds of games with them like Mother May I, Hide n Seek and Softball.
In 1996 her daughter Tammy left home, married and gave Linda three grandchildren. In 2005 Linda obtained custody of Autumn and Sarah and she adopted them in 2007. She was granted custody of Tabitha in 2010 and adopted her in 2011. She also helped her sister gain custody in 2011 of Byron, Tabitha's brother and her sister adopted him in 2012.
In December of 2012 she went to see Tammy and her husband BJ baptized and then at that time Linda began attending church and attended regularly until her death. After attending one church for about a year the family moved to Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church in 2014. Shortly after being at Crossroads Linda put her faith and trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and a few years later took the bold step on January 17, 2017, of being baptized as a public witness of her faith in Christ. She attended Crossroads from about 2014 until her recent death. It was there that she made two very close friends, Mary Bales and Clantha Lawson, and they enjoyed each other's company tremendously.
Linda had strong character in a number of ways. She was saucy and outspoken. She had excellent discernment regarding people as to whether they were good and trustworthy or bad and untrustworthy. She had a strong sense of responsibility and an impressive and admirable work ethic. She was a strong disciplinarian but not without loving her children and caring for them.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters; by a son, Michael Hazel; and by a grandson, Christian Price. She is survived by a son, Timothy Hazel; and by a daughter, Tammy Kiefer and her husband BJ; by three other daughters; Autumn Hazel, Sarah Hazel, and Tabitha Hazel; by her grandchildren: Elizabeth Roe, McKenzie Price, Byron Jones, Terell Hazel and JT Tate; by her great grandchildren: Xander, Serena, Scarlett, Ramona Rae, Chase and Paisley.
Linda leaves a legacy of inspiring love for her children and grandchildren and a wonderful example of working hard to provide for others.
