Leona Pearl Hibbs

Leona Pearl (Smith) Hibbs of Jenks, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord Monday, July 22, 2013. She was born to Thomas and Lizzie Smith on June 3, 1915 in Miami, Oklahoma. During World War II she worked in the ammunition plant in Parsons, Kansas and then on to Long Beach, California to work in the shipyards as a riveter. She married Melvin Hibbs on August 14, 1943 in Fairland, Oklahoma and they moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where she lived for fifty years. They had one daughter, Darlene Dorsey of Jenks, Oklahoma. Leona was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She also made beautiful quilts. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and had some of the most beautiful peonies in Ponca City. She was a member of the Beaver Street Baptist Church in Jenks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, two brothers, John and Amos Smith, two sisters, Mary Rardin and Hazel Blunt and her best friend of seventy-one years, Audrey Leonard. Leona is survived by her daughter, Darlene and husband, Tom, two grandsons, Greg Rinehart and Jeff Dorsey and two great-grandsons, Ryker and Ramsey Rinehart all of Jenks, a brother, Mel Smith and his wife, Lois of Tulsa, Oklahoma along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family would like to thank Accentra Home Health Care and Saint Francis Hospice for their wonderful care and support and a very special thanks to Jayme Collins for the love and care she gave to Leona. Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Beaver Street Baptist Church in Jenks. Interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C.
