A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Leland Myron Sheppard will be 10:00am Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Leland will lie in state for visitation and family to receive friends Monday evening from 5:00PM~8:00PM. Leland Myron Sheppard passed away on Wednesday, Nov 25, 2020 at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was 88 years old.
Leland was born on February 1, 1932 in Montrose, SD to his parents, Cecil and Lena (Reider) Sheppard. He grew up working on the family farm and proudly served our country in the Air Force. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Margie through a mutual friend that was in the Air Force. They corresponded by writing letters after Leland was discharged from the service he drove to Rockford, Illinois and met Margie in December 1955. They were engaged February 1956 and married March 1, 1956 in Howe, Oklahoma a union that would last sixty-three years before Margie preceded him in death on November 7, 2019..
After moving to Oklahoma he worked at the local sawmill in Heavener, Oklahoma, thus starting a life long career having worked in the lumber business for Bell Lumber, Dale Carter Lumber, Benson Lumber, Commercial Lumber, Gates Hardware, Flintco, Mill Creek Lumber, and finally Home Hardware in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
His time with the Lord was the most important. His favorite scripture was: Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” He was known in ministry to be a friend to Pastors, missionaries, and evangelists. He also was a deacon, song leader and Sunday school teacher.
He was a soul winner who loved to share the gospel.
Leland leaves many loving memories with his family. He is survived by Son, Roger (Pam) Sheppard, Daughter, Sondra (Jeff) Schwickerath. Grandchildren Brooke (Josh) Lemaster, Mysti (Daniel) Johnson, Chad(Brittany) Sheppard, Jennifer and Jara Schwickerath. Great Grandchildren include Easton & Elliot Lemaster, Colt & Kade Johnson, Aspen & Beckett Sheppard, brother John (Dorothy) Sheppard and sister Bertha along with many other loving relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margie, his parents, two sisters Pearl & Geneva and his brother Harold.
