Lela Dee (Parks) McCauley passed away October 7, 2012. She was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma to John McDaniel Parks and Delia May (Puckett) Parks. Lela graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. She received her B.A. from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and where she met Lawrence McCauley. Lela and Lawrence were married at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa and raised their daughter in Okmulgee. Lela led an active and fulfilling life in Okmulgee: she was a charter member of both Okmulgee’s Service League and chapter ER of PEO, taught preschool at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer Day School, was active in the Art and Literature Club and the Garden Club, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Lela also enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong with her friends. The family would like to thank Jennifer Grayson of Tulsa for the kindness and thoughtfulness she put into caring for Lela. Lela will be remembered as a kind and loving person whose warm smile, words, and actions made each person in her life feel special and cherished. Lela is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Vespa May (Parks) High, and her husband Lawrence E. McCauley. She is survived by her daughter, Marianne McCauley Long of Tulsa; her granddaughters, Lauren Ashley Long of Tulsa and K. Whitney Mauer of Ithaca, NY; her great-granddaughters Eliot Sloane Mauer and Marlowe Berit Mauer; and her faithful dog, Digby. At Lela’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Lela’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Okmulgee or to the Friends of the Okmulgee Public Library.
