Lawrence Burchfield

Lawrence Dewey Burchfield was born December 9th, 1933. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Burchfield Sr., and mother Martha E. Burchfield, and his wife Virginia L. Burchfield.

He is survived by his sons Larry Lynn Burchfield and wife Rebecca, David G. Burchfield, wife Heather, grandchildren Jason, Steven, April, Katie, David, Chadrick, Elizabeth, and Cedrick and great-grandchildren Xander, Braden, Dylan, Khloe, Brennon, Emily, Allie, Nixon, plus one great-great-grandchild, Kinslee.

Lawrence graduated from Richmond High School in 1951 and upon graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training. Upon graduation he was sent to Commercial Trades Institute in Chicago for automotive prevention maintenance training. After graduation, he volunteered to go to the Far East and was sent to the Far East Command and was stationed at Kimpo Air Force Base, Kimpo, Korea, where he was assigned to the Fourth Motor Pool as a mechanic repairing all types of small to heavy equipment.

Upon completing his tour of duty in Korea, he returned back to the States, and while on leave in December 1952, he met Virginia when she walked up and said, "Hi, what are you doing?"-five words that turned into a 65-year romance. He was assigned to the 533rd Material Squadron where for the rest of his active duty requirement he worked in refueling maintenance, repairing refueling trucks and tankers.

On the 29th day of July 1955, he was released from active duty and placed in the Air Force Reserves at Hamilton Field, Calif. And on July 29, 1959, he completed his 8-year obligation and received an Honorable Discharge. He was discharged with the rank of E4 Sergeant. For his service to his country, he received the National Defense Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Ribbon, Korean War Service Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Ribbon, and two Fourth Fighter Wing Unit Citations from the President of Korea, and the 50th Anniversary Ribbon given to all who served in Korea 1951 to 1953 as a thank-you from the people's Republic of Korea.

Lawrence also attended Contra Costa College under the GI Bill-a 2-year course to further his education in auto mechanics-and graduated.

Lawrence loved boating, hunting, and fishing, repairing rod and reels, as well as reloading his own ammunition and working on and maintaining his cars and trucks.

Lawrence was baptized into the Church of God on September 2nd, 1972, where he began serving members of the church, and in April 1990, he was ordained a Deacon. On July 11th, 2009, he was ordained an Elder, serving the C.B.C.G Tulsa Fellowship Group in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A funeral service will take place at the Christian Biblical Church of God in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bill Wax officiating.

Interment will be at the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, next to his wife Virginia following the funeral service.
