Kent Sawatzky, 66, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, June 24, 2018. A lifetime of devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his final days and gave him peace.
Kent was born to AJ and Lera Sawatzky in Clinton, OK on July 15, 1951. The family lived on a farm in Western Oklahoma and moved to Weatherford, OK when Kent was 3 years old. He attended and graduated from Weatherford Public Schools.
Kent met Debbie Day in the fall of 1969, and they were married on August 5, 1972 in Cordell, OK. Kent started Sawatzky Homes, Inc. in 1973 as an extension of his dad’s company, Sawatzky Construction, LLC. Kent’s company began building custom homes and later branched into hospitality construction in the early 90’s with projects completed across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Kent was blessed with four children and was actively involved in raising them. He encouraged each to pursue a personal relationship with Christ, and instilled in them unconditional love, independence, the ability to problem solve and strong work ethic.
Behind his faith and the love of his family was his passion for racing. Kent loved the strategy involved in racing cars: anticipating competitors’ actions and calculating how he would respond. He loved the thrill of going fast!
Kent’s life was defined by his faith in God and extending the love of Christ to those around him.
Kent was preceded in death by his father, AJ Sawatzky and sister, Kristie McCune.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; mother, Lera; sister Kerri and Dan Gasparovic of Ft. Worth, TX; daughters Tobi and Matthew Wilson of Weatherford, OK, Jami and Justin Moss of Abilene, TX, and Niki Sawatzky of Broken Arrow, OK; son Ayrton “AJ” Sawatzky of Minneapolis, MN; and grandchildren Luke and Mark Wilson, and Sawyer and Asher Moss.
Services to celebrate Kent’s life will be Friday June 29th at 11:30 a.m. at Parkview Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kent can be made to First Baptist Church Weatherford, OK or Parkview Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family, online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
