Kenneth Ray Whitmore

Kenneth Ray Whitmore, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. Ken was born December 31, 1937 in Red Oak, Oklahoma to Geneva (Jenkins) Whitmore and Harley Whitmore.

He attended Charles Page High school in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. After graduation, Ken served our country in the United States Air Force.

On November 19, 1971 he married the love of his life, Shirley Smith in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ken worked for Peevy Construction as a superintendent. After 40 years, he retired in 2008.

He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in which he was instrumental in building the sanctuary. He was also the first man to work in the infant nursery at the church.

Ken loved to read and do crossword puzzles. You could often find him tinkering in the garage or watching sports on the television, whether it was table tennis or his favorite, college football. He was a quiet, reserved man but had a quick wit and a big heart. He was a devoted grandfather and will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Geneva (Jenkins) Whitmore and Harley Whitmore; grandsons, Elijah Harley and Jonah Francis Whitmore; sister, JoEdith Whitworth; and brother-in-law, Bob Reed.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Smith) Whitmore; two daughters, Tyra Palmer and her husband James, Kristina Jones and her husband, Dale; son, Wade Whitmore; brother, Robert Whitmore and his wife, RoAnn; and two sisters, Karen Owen and her husband, Jim, and Brenda Reed. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Madison Dyer, Allyson Foster, Hannah Roberts, Alexandria Jones, James Palmer III, Austin Jones, Meredith Palmer, Lane Jones, Kendall Roberts, Lindsey Jones, Canyon Roberts, Gabe Whitmore, Gracie Whitmore, and Zoe Whitmore; and seven great-grandchildren, Anna Jones, Zayden Roberts, Ezra Jones, Rhettington Chuculate, Jackie Dyer, Jolene Chuculate, and Aurora Baker.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kenneth Whitmore to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, 1 PM at Olivet Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
