In Loving Memory of Kathryn Smith
Kathryn Smith, age 72, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 19, 1951, in Jackson, MS, to her parents, Wilbert and Mildred Ellis.
Kathryn was a true southern belle, known for her culinary talents, especially her famous red beans and rice. A proud graduate of Oxford High in 1969, she continued her education at Ole Miss, where she became a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Her time at college not only enriched her academic pursuits but also introduced her to her first husband, David "Red" Smith. They were united in marriage on August 21, 1976, and from this loving union, their son Drew Smith was born on August 21, 1979.
In 1994, the family embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Tulsa, OK. Kathryn dedicated her skills as a secretary to the Ole Miss Football program, Tulsa University, and Florida Gulf Coast University. Despite the challenges life presented, Kathryn's strength and resilience shone through. Following her divorce in 2002, she moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where she found happiness having always wanted to live on a Floridian beach.
In 2018, Kathryn returned to Oklahoma to be closer to her beloved son Drew and his wife Sarah and grand-daughter Ashley. Her commitment to family and her nurturing spirit continued to touch the lives of those around her. Kathryn Smith left a lasting legacy of warmth, love, and delicious meals that will be cherished by all who knew her.
A graveside service to celebrate Kathryn's life will be held at 11:00 AM on November 28, 2023, at Oxford Memorial Cemetery in Oxford, Mississippi, with Warren Black officiating. Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Teresa Shade.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kathryn's memory to St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
