Katherine Louann (Katie) Runion

Katherine Louann (Katie) Runion, 66, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at her daughter’s residence in Broken Arrow, OK, with her daughter at her side.
She was the widow of Roy Arthur Runion. They were married on July 28, 1984 at May Avenue Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
Katherine was born on December 30, 1950, in Mattoon, IL to Elmer Franklin and Helen Virginia (Lawrence) Goetz. She was a 1968 graduate of Mattoon High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education – Visually Handicapped from Illinois State University. Her first job was teaching blind and partially sighted students, in Dubuque, IA, where she was also active in a program to teach downhill skiing to the blind. In 1980, she moved to Oklahoma City, to expand her career options and to be closer to her father’s relatives. She spent the majority of her career teaching the visually handicapped for the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Katie had an avid interest in history and particularly enjoyed volunteering ¬at the Oklahoma History Center. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church (formerly May Avenue Methodist Church) of OKC, OK.

She was preceded in death by her father & her husband, Roy.

Katherine is survived by her mother, Virginia Goetz of Urbandale, IA; a daughter, Molly Warford of Broken Arrow, OK; a sister, Elizabeth (Randy) Hertz of Nevada, IA; a brother, Larry (Pat) Goetz; one grandchild, Raden Warford; three nieces, Regina (Gabe) Lohr, Elizabeth (Luke) Wenz, & Sally (Luke) Gran; and many other loving family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM January 6, 2018 at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2604 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73107.
