God called his daughter, Kate, to her Heavenly home on September 14th after a full life of love and service.
Born in her grandmother’s house in Dermott, Arkansas to Alonzo Garland and Vivian Linder White, Kate was named for her grandmother. Kate was the second of seven children. Her two sisters and four brothers all preceded her in death. Kate graduated from McGehee High School and attended John Brown University. With World War II interrupting her education, she went to work in the Defense Department’s Arkansas ammunition plant. In 1944, she married Paul Vincent Morrissey, her beloved husband of 54 years until his death in 1998. Kate and Paul had two children, son Mike of Tulsa and Austin, and daughter Michele Kate of Tulsa.
Kate was a true Southern Lady; strong, proud, and devoted to her family, faith and home. Her highest values were honesty, integrity, and hard work. She loved to read almost anything and keep up with the news. As part of family adventures, she was always up for travel, visiting relatives or sporting events. She loved her Sooners, Cardinals and Razorbacks. When asked about her longevity, she would only say, “It’s not up to me how long I’m here, that is up to God.” She lived her life to the fullest as the world’s greatest Mom.
Her strength of character and resolve are an inspiration to all who knew her. She embodied the greatest generation, not loud or showy, she led by example and taught with force of will. When she had enough of something, she often said, “Well, let’s go.”
In addition to Mike and Michele, Kate is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Eli, Joseph Paul, and Mamie Kate; and three great grandchildren; Madeline Kate, Mia Kate, and Benjamin.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the heart, lung or kidney research effort of your choice or to John Brown University would please her.
