Karen Jane Auble was born on May 31, 1936 in Spencer, OH to Dallas and Nina Auble. She grew up in the small town of Spencer and graduated Valedictorian from Spencer High School in 1954. She went on to college at Miami of Ohio University where she studied Math in the Engineering Department.
Karen married Bruce Ewing Walters on December 26, 1955 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Spencer OH. They moved around the country wherever the Air Force would send them starting with El Paso, TX where they gave birth in 1957 to their first child, Elizabeth. Great Falls, MT was next and then Elk City, OK where their son, Dale was born in 1959. Their third child, Carol was born in Columbus, OH in 1964. When Bruce got a job with American Airlines, the couple moved to Wheeling, IL where Karen was a homemaker. Karen went to Harper Community College when her children were older and earned her AA in Computer Science. She worked for Kemper Insurance Company and then Oakton Community College as a computer programmer. She was an incredible seamstress, played the piano and enjoyed cross-stitch and needlepoint. Karen was a voracious reader and often came back from the library with 20 or more books.
After the children had all left home and Bruce retired from the airlines, the couple moved out to Marengo, IL where they purchased a few acres and had a custom home built. Karen and Bruce enjoyed traveling to many US destinations and abroad. They went on about 18 cruises and often joined friends on their travels. Karen and Bruce were married for 67 years.
Karen is survived by her husband, Bruce Ewing Walters; her daughters Elizabeth Ewing Paden (Mark Taylor Paden) and Carol Marie Heath (Joe Don Heath); her grandchildren, Nicholas Taylor Paden, Erica Ewing Roberts, Jackson Dale Heath, Cameron Dallas Heath and Scout Austin Heath and her great-grandchildren Avery Elizabeth Roberts and Madilyn Diane Roberts. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Nina Auble and her son, 1st Lt. Dale Alan Walters, USAF.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 10th at 1:30 at the Montereau Warren Chapel located at 6800 South Granite Ave., Tulsa OK.
