James William "J.W." McCuen passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born September 14, 1937 in Akins, the son of Louis and Mattie (Tuck) McCuen. J.W. attended Central High School in Akins. He pursued a career in the auto industry for many years employed by Doenges Brothers and Don Thornton Ford. J.W. worked as a facilities technician for Divco, Inc. until his retirement in 2000.
J.W. was a good family man. He loved to fish, hunt, and he was always known to call friends and family on the phone just to visit. It was always important for him to keep in touch with those he cared about. J.W. would always sit out on the porch and wave to folks as they passed by. He mowed lawns for several neighbors in the area. Many knew him as the "mayor of King street." J. W. loved his family dearly. He always had a nickname for the grandchildren, nieces, and nephews which was never forgotten.
J.W. was preceded in death by parents; and his brother Lewis Curtis McCuen; his half-sister Dorothy Thorn; and his granddaughter Holly Rachel McCuen. He is survived by his wife Martha Sue McCuen; his son Danny (Virginia) McCuen; 5 grandchildren: Kyle, David, Tegan, Adric, Sean; and 3 great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service & Cremation Care at Memorial Park, 5757 S. Memorial Drive in Tulsa. A memorial ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Volz officiating.
