Services to honor and celebrate the life of Joyce Maxine Hunter will be 10:00am Monday February 7, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Glenpool. Joyce passed from this life January 31, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 88.
Joyce Maxine Hunter was born in the little town of Lenna, Oklahoma on September 20, 1933 to James Elmer Hunter and Bennie Mae Hunter. Joyce grew up in McIntosh County where she graduated from Stidham High School with the Class of 1951.
Joyce was a longtime employee of Amerada Hess which was headquartered at the time in Tulsa, OK.
She was a faithful and longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Glenpool for close to 70 years where she served in various roles over the years such as a Church Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. She loved gospel music and had a beautiful voice.
Joyce loved walking and if you ever decided to join her on a walk, you had better have been ready to stretch your legs as she kept a fast pace. She loved spending time with family and was always ready to join you for a meal (particularly if it involved a fish fry). She was an avid basketball fan and whether it was simply watching her nieces/nephews play school ball or watching her beloved Chicago Bulls on TV, she sure loved to watch and cheer her team on. After she retired from Amerada Hess, she joined a bowling league in Sapulpa at Sahoma Lanes where she enjoyed spending time with friends, especially with Paster Jack and Lovelle.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Zelma Hunter of Lenna, OK, Bonnie Hunter of Lenna, OK, Velma Crocker of Bixby, OK, Ocie Woods of Glenpool, OK, Opal Williams of Glenpool, OK, Neva Calvert of Glenpool, OK and her brothers James M Hunter of Glenpool, OK and Ernest Hunter of Glenpool, OK
She leaves many loving memories with her surviving family members, her sister Clara Calvert of Glenpool, OK along with too many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews to count.
