Josefina Conover

March 19, 1936 — August 18, 2021

Josefina (Fernandez - Garcia) Conover age 85 of Tulsa, OK passed peacefully at Saint Francis Hospital holding her loving husband, Harold Conover's hand who had passed within the hour next to her on August 18, 2021.

Josefina was born to Pilar (Fernandez - Garcia) and Fernando Garcia on the 19th of March 1936 in Madrid, Spain. Ina was born at home during the Spanish Civil War. She was not able to leave her home until the war ended. Josefina graduated from high school and attended college in Madrid, Spain. She met a United States Airforce cadet, Harold Conover, while he was stationed in Madrid, Spain. They married on September 1, 1958 and moved back to the United States. She became a United States citizen on December 17, 1964 but was very proud of her Spanish heritage and her Roman Catholic faith. Josefina and Harold had two children, Sandra and Greg. Josefina worked as a teacher assistant and stay at home mother. Greg kept her busy with the mischief he got himself into at school. Ina one day let Greg drive the family car by himself for the first time. He subsequently wrecked the car. Fortunately, Greg was not hurt... until he got home. Ina had a bit of a fiery temper; her children and husband were used to her speaking in Spanish when she was upset with them. Although, they couldn't understand every word, they knew when she was upset. Faith played an important role in Ina's life, she loved talking with the neighbors about religion - specifically the Catholic Religion. The family were parishioners at Saint Mary's when the children were younger and later worshipped at Saint Bernards. Josefina was a smart lady who was a great historian, was able to transition from her culture to the American culture with ease, and a good cook. She could cook both American and Spanish food and had two specialties, paella, and Spanish omelets. Josefina and Harold had a love that endured 63 years, and they took their last breaths holding hands.

Josefina is preceded in death by her parents, Pilar Fernandez - Garcia and Fernando Garcia.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Conover and Greg Conover and wife Michelle, grandchildren, Nicole Longan and husband Cain, Michael Conover and wife Jordyn, great-grandson, Vincent Longan, brother, Glenn Conover and wife Carol, niece, Carla Conover-Hall, and other loving family and friends.
