John Thomas (Tom) Randel, Jr., passed away at age 80 on March 12, 2021 in Tulsa, OK. He was born September 2, 1941 in Tyler, TX to John Thomas and Hazel Harriet (Johnson) Randel. He grew up in Tyler, TX and graduated from John Tyler High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and an officer in the Student Council. He was a Junior Rotarian, member of Marvin Methodist Church and earned the ranking of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. His scouting career, starting at age 8, included attending two national jamborees, one world jubilee jamboree, and campouts too numerous to count, eventually including his son, Stephen Randel. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Accounting from the University of Texas.
He married in 1964 to Nancy Lee Orr, also of Tyler. Tom, a CPA, practiced accounting in Houston, TX with Arthur Anderson and Co. where he became a partner in charge of the tax department. During the buildup of US troops in Vietnam in 1966-67, he volunteered for service in the US Army. He received a direct commission and entered service as a 2nd Lieutenant. After a year at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM, he was sent to Vietnam where he served as a finance officer. After leaving service in 1968 as a 1st Lieutenant, he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. After Vietnam, he settled in Houston, TX with his wife and three children. Tom and his family moved to Tulsa, OK in 1974, where he worked for Touche Ross (now Deloitte & Touche) and later for Viersen and Cochran Drilling Company. He was an expert in oil and gas taxation.
Tom is survived by his former wife, Nancy Randel of Asheville, NC; his sister, Harriet Rylander of San Francisco, CA; Daughter Amy and husband Philippe Rosse of Asheville, NC, grandchildren, Eliza and Holden Rosse; Daughter Molly Randel of Oklahoma City, OK.
Tom's cremated remains will be placed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, OK,
