John Edward Laley, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on February 16, 1956, to Joseph and Mary Margaret Laley, John was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a man of quiet strength and deep integrity.
John is survived by his loving children, Kenda Stevenson and her husband Robby, Michael Laley and his wife Sabrina, and Christopher Laley and his wife Marjorie; his cherished grandchildren: Caden, Tyler, Andrew, and Luke (children of Kenda); Finn and Emma (children of Michael); and Gabriel and Keira (children of Christopher); and numerous extended family members, all of whom were an important part of his life.
John grew up in Tulsa, where he attended Salk Elementary School, Byrd Middle School, and Memorial High School. Known for his friendly personality and joking nature, John had a talent for making others smile and built lifelong friendships during his school years. He continued his education at Central State University (now the University of Central Oklahoma), earning a bachelor’s degree.
He dedicated many years of his career to Jack Wills Patio & Fireside, where his expertise and approachable demeanor earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike. He was known as a dedicated employee with a strong work ethic, qualities that defined his professional life. His career later took him to Kansas City before he eventually returned to Tulsa, retiring from Steel Service Oilfield Tubular in 2024.
John loved life and embraced it fully. He had a passion for golfing, cheering on the OU Sooners and Kansas City Chiefs, riding his motorcycle, and attending his grandchildren’s activities—pursuits that brought him joy and lasting memories with those he cared about. With his positive spirit, he was the family’s biggest cheerleader, who guided everyone with his wisdom and kind heart. His deep roots in Tulsa brought him a lifetime of meaningful connections. He had an extraordinary circle of friends, some dating back to childhood. John was known to everyone as a good guy who showed up, cared deeply, and left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His love for his family, friends, and his community will be remembered and cherished forever.
