John Edward Steinmitz

John "Jack" Edward Steinmitz III, Owasso, age 70, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, August 11th. Jack was born in Parsons in 1951, Kansas to Mary and Glen Steinmitz, the only boy in a house of girls.

Jack leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Ann, daughters Shannon Johnson and Angela Steinmitz, son-in-law Dusten Johnson, and grandsons Creek and Josiah Johnson. Jack is also survived by his siblings; Chris Herrmann, Cathie Amos (John), Connie Van Harn, Cindy Kees (Gary), Charlotte Sears (Joe), Bill Maxson (Cherie), Taunya Rutenbeck, David Maxson (Diane), Sue Maxson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was introduced to Mary Ann as her "frog prince" in Parsons, Kansas in 1977 at the school where she worked. They fell in love and were married on November 25, 1978. They went on to serve on mission fields around the world, before returning to the United States, and having Shannon in 1982 and Angela in 1984. The family settled in Claremore, Oklahoma in 1989. Jack entered the Navy as a corpsman in 1974, where he spent time attached to the Marines before being honorably discharged in 1978. He then joined the Army National Guard in 1990 where he served until 1995, before moving to the U.S. Army Reserves in 1996. He retired in 2006 as a captain. He was recognized throughout his military career for excellence in service.

Jack graduated from Rogers State College in 1993 with a degree in nursing - before going to work at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, where he spent the entirety of his 28-year career. Jack came to know Christ during his time in the Navy, and his faith was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a man of prayer and was known for his servant's heart - at the hospital where he deeply cared for his patients and co-workers, at home with his family, and in his church community. He always had a kind word for strangers and stopped to honor veterans and service members whenever he saw them.

Jack went 90 miles an hour. He loved running and spending time outdoors with his beloved dogs, gardening, and doing projects. He also loved being Papa Jack to his grandsons Creek and Josiah and was the best adventure partner they could hope for.

In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Jack can be made to the Battlecreek CARE Fund or to the family for medical expenses.
