On December 22, 2018 John Bentley Wilson, Jr., a loving husband and father went to his heavenly home at the age of 81.
John was born in June 4, 1937 in Mansfield, LA. He was the 5th out of 6 children born to John B. and Elvie (Haire) Wilson.
John was a 1956 graduate from Mansfield High School where he met the love of his life, Carolyn (Garner) Wilson. The two got married on February 28, 1959.
John began his career and calling in sales in 1959 with Nabors Trailers, Mansfield. John was a natural salesman and earned recognition and awards for many of his accomplishments. He later began his own business in Lafayette, LA. During his career he was also involved in several other business ventures in San Antonia, TX, Shreveport, Mansfield and Baton Rouge. After many years, John made the decision to retire in 2013 when he and his wife, Carolyn moved to Tulsa to be closer to their much-loved children and grandchildren.
John was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He never saw a boat, bait, fish or lake that didn’t thrill him. His favorite place to spend time fishing was Henderson Lake in Henderson, LA. Not only did John enjoy catching fish, but he also cleaned and cooked many fine fish dinners. He loved sharing his catch with his friends and neighbors.
John was member of the South Tulsa Baptist Church; a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Bob and two sisters, Louise and Yvonne.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Garner) Wilson; four daughters, Johnette Wenz and Jennifer Richard, both of Tulsa, Julie Vodicka of Dallas and Jeannie Rice of Birmingham; and two son-in-laws who were like sons to him, Eddie Richard and Steve Rice. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Nicholas Wenz, Rachel Chavez and her husband, Samuel, Jonathan Richard, Kimberly Richard, Brian Vodicka, Bethany Vodicka, Caroline Rice and Ben Rice; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Elise Chavez; sister, Joanne Guillott of Vidor, Texas and her husband, Polen and numerous nieces and nephews.
A family memorial service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11 AM in John’s home with Bob Herndon officiating.
