JoElla Jordan, a loving wife, devoted friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 with her loving husband by her side. Born on September 24, 1938, to Joseph and Wanda Lackey in Tulsa, JoElla lived a life filled with love, faith, and service.
JoElla graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma State University. In 1958 at Cotton’s Drive-In, over a shared laugh and a second Coca-Cola, she met the love of her life when he parked beside her in his new MGA sports car. This chance encounter with a young man who bought her that second Coke led to a love story for the ages. Three years later, they were married on December 1, 1961, and their marriage became a beacon of commitment and devotion, spanning 63 beautiful years.
A woman of deep faith, JoElla was a dedicated member of Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church when she met Scott. She lived her beliefs through service and love for others. She grew up with strict Baptist convictions but had a heart as wide as the horizon. She always had a special place in her heart for children, dedicating countless hours working and volunteering in various children’s services, offering care, kindness, and a listening ear to many young souls who needed it most. Though she never had biological children, JoElla embraced her role as a mother to three beloved "foster" daughters, creating a loving home filled with laughter, guidance, and unconditional support.
In 1992, JoElla and her husband embarked on travels across the country in their motorhome and became active members of the Happy "OK" Wanderers FMCA chapter. Together driving over a quarter million miles, they explored all 48 contiguous states, sharing countless adventures and memories on the open road. Their travels were a testament to their zest for life, their love of discovery, and their unwavering companionship.
JoElla was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Wanda Lackey, and her brother, Phillip Wayne Lackey. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and boundless kindness that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
