Joe Steven Morgan went home to be with the Lord on the morning of November 7th. 2016, at the age of 57. Before leaving he was surrounded in love from family and friends. He left this earth with his daughter by his side. Steve will be remembered as having an ornery spirit, full of life, love, laughter, and vigor. He is loved by his son, Joe Christopher of Fairbanks, Alaska, and daughter, Dr. Amber Schofield of Tulsa, Oklahoma who spent their childhoods camping, hiking, repelling, wrestling, cooking, watching movies, and in church close by his side.
He raised them as a single parent, working hard to care for them and teach them about God. He is survived by his mother, Ann, and his sisters Sherry Ponton and Phyllis Lacquement and her spouse Jeff. He will be missed by his niece, Ashley Ponton, and nephews Jared, and Kevin Lacquement. In heaven he will join his loving father, Joe Bryan (J.B.), who taught him about God and the outdoors while worshiping and camping with the Assembly of God Royal Rangers. He will also join his favorite dog, Charlie, who can again tug the socks off his feet.
Steve’s favorite things in life were music, movies, camping, repelling, and playing disc golf. On the golf course he was known as “Two Finger Steve”, for his unique disc throw. One friend described him as being, “… always happy and [having a] great positive attitude no matter what”.
The family will gather to remember him in a private memorial service. Public memorials for Steve will be established at Red Rock Canyon State Park and Will Rogers Park Disc Golf Course in Oklahoma City. Anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution in his honor can do so to his or her local Royal Rangers Association.
