On Sunday, August 22, 2021, heaven gained an amazing father, husband and mentor. Joe Dale Flemings lost his life after a short but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. He bravely chose to undergo Whipple surgery but lost his battle due to surgery complications. Joe's celebration of life will be Friday, August 27, 2021 at Schaudt's Funeral Service & Cremation Care Center in Glenpool, Oklahoma from 2-4 PM (come and go). Joe requested a casting ceremony at Remington Park which will be planned at a later date.
Joe was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on January 12, 1951. He attended high school in Catoosa, Oklahoma and Ft. Worth, TX where he spent most of his time rebuilding vehicles. Joe first worked with his family at Flemings' Roofing company then began working in the oil industry in the sheet metal union which included helping build the Alaskan Pipeline. With time he found his ultimate passion as a horse trainer. Horse racing was what Joe loved, and in the 80's he began his career training quarter horses and quickly made a name for himself. He had notable success with a horse named "Flemings Brat". After many successes with quarter horses he decided to switch to training Thoroughbred racehorses. He had tremendous success not only in Oklahoma but the surrounding states also. He trained at numerous tracks but considered Remington Park as his "home track". Joe was recognized for countless awards, was highly respected and was a mentor to many. He retired a few years ago.
Joe met the love of his life, Judy Flemings, in Tulsa OK. They were married on September 25, 1981 and had everlasting love. They made their initial home in Tulsa until they bought a plot of land in Mounds where they built a small training facility and lived for 38 years. He enjoyed the country life, watching birds and squirrels each morning, taking care of his loyal furry companions and enjoying his wife's company. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up, being a busy body in and outside the house and spending quality time with his wife and son. His favorite pastime was riding motorcycles.
Joe is survived by his wife Judy Flemings; his son Rowdy Flemings and wife Brittany, Edmond, OK; his sister Beverly Henson, Haltom City, TX, his grandchildren Finley (Edmond, OK) and Alexa Flemings (Durham, NC). He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Flemings, mother Lorene Daughtery and his beloved dogs, Harley and Macy and many furry predecessors who came before them.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you make donations in memory of him to Coffee Bunker @ https://www.coffeebunker.org/donate/.
