Joe B. Hill, 73, passed away after a short illness on April 5, 2016. He was born in Texarkana, TX on June 7, 1942, and spent most of his childhood in Borger, TX. He graduated from high school in Farmington, NM and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ft. Lewis A & M College in Durango, CO. After moving to Tulsa in the late sixties to work for Sinclair Oil and Gas, he pursued his master’s degree in accounting at the University of Tulsa.
He later served as controller of Knight Manufacturing and worked for Patterson Steel before answering an ad in the Wall Street Journal which led him to McAlester Fuel Company in McAlester. He spent the next 27 years in McAlester, most of which he was in public accounting and had the largest firm in southeastern Oklahoma at the time. In 1997, he retired and lasted all of three months. That was when he decided to move to Tulsa and start another firm. He remained loyal to his clients until his death.
Joe was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Yale Avenue Christian Church. In 1984, he was named Accounting Advocate of the Year by the Small Business Administration. During his years in McAlester, he won many accolades for his civic involvement.
Joe was married to his wife Sylvia for nearly 49 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Alford Willard Hill and his mother, Nancy James Perryman Hill. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, daughters: Dr. Christie Hill and Dr. George Pratsinak of Petersburg, VA and Holly Hill and Rob Kenney of Corvalis, OR; his sister, Sidney Fry of Denton, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9th at 2:00 PM at Yale Avenue Christian Church.
